Minutes from October 25, 2007

Hey there everybody. It's Minutes time!

Video Game Nights

-We had our first video game night on Tuesday October 23. It was mildly successful and hopefully the next one will be even better (October 30th); especially if I put the right date on the flyers (whoops.) The next two game nights will just be general practice/get together with the one on the 13th being an actual tourney with fabulous prizes (Trophies). Come out, bring your friends too, every Tuesday LC 18 from 7-9.

Dave

-Everyone knows by now that he's running, but now it's crunch time. We're closing in on the election date and we need anyone and everyone who's willing to do anything to help out. Lit dropping, door knocking, phone banking, databasing from 5-8 Monday-Friday, and 11-4 Saturday-Sunday. Please come and help out Dave.

-We also voted to give Dave the lion's share of the Campus Greens Treasury. We will be keeping $50 of it and the rest will be going to him. If you've got a problem with that you probably should have been at the meeting.

-There will be door-knocking on Saturday evening with Dave, Peter, and whoever else shows up if people would like to help out right away.

NYPIRG

-NYPIRG approached us the other day asking if we would sign an intergroup petition they put out in support of TAP funding expansion and increase. For those of you who don't know what TAP is you can find out more at http://www.hesc.com/content.nsf/. We put it to a vote and opted to sign their petition. Again, if you think that was the wrong decision, you should have been there.

Republicans

-They still want to debate us. Now they've moved on to Healthcare. The general consensus is that the Republicans only do events in debate with us. So we've decided to cut the debating with the them for a while. If anyone is really interested in doing this we'll support you with research help and any other way, but as of right now we're not doing it.

Battle over Beverages and the Art Coalition

-As you know we're trying to get an event going about the soft-drink industry. And I was hoping to get the SUNY Art Coalition involved to provide some sort of interesting painting, sculpture, etc. Well, one of the officers from the coalition came to the meeting yesterday and let us know a little more about the group which I briefly list here.

-The Coalition is more of a Coop helping artist find locations to display work, get materials, and so on.

-They would like to get more inter-group communication and activities going

-A portion of the membership would like to make it a political themed group

-Their meetings are (for right now) Tuesdays at 4:00 PM in the Critique Room (223) in Fine Arts

It would be really awesome if a bunch of Greens would go to the meeting and show some support and help them to be recognized by SA. Also, they have their own potlucks so we'll be hopefully inviting them to ours to make some kind of super-potluck monster. Should be good times.

Tabling

-Again, we're tabling EVERY WEDNESDAY. If you can make it from 1:30 on that'd be awesome since LF and I can cover from the mornings until then. So come and help out Ana so she's not all alone from 1:30 on. If you can make it, let us know.

-Further, we'll be promoting the Art Coalition at the table so get to know them so you can talk about their group.

Announcements

-The Urban Volunteer Core (Dave Lussier's brain child that's been doing cleanups every saturday) will be doing tulip bulb planting this Saturday from 11 to however long it takes to get done. If you'd like to come out let us know or just show up at 382 Morris street. I've been bad about meeting people (sorry people I left behind), so I won't officially extend that service, but you can meet me if you want.

-Matt hates Game Night and would to see something different done. A Stitch and Bitch was suggested so if anyone would be interested in that we'll put it on. Additionally, if anyone has anything they'd like to see done to get people acquainted with the Greens or build the camaraderie of the group suggest it. Please.

Again, I'd like to push going to the Art Coalition meeting to help them out,  but if people can't make it there's not much that can be done.

That's it.

(edited 10/26 to fix incorrect time for the SUNY Art Coalition meetings)
