Hello Everybody!

We had our first meeting of the semester last night and went over a bunch
of things. Let's get right to it, shall we?

1. Background of the Campus Greens
-This was for the benefit of all our new members. Mostly just an general
overview of what it is to be a Green and what we do on the Campus.

2. Dave's Campaign
-Dave Lussier was at the meeting trying to rally support and volunteers
for his campaign for the county legislature. He gave a great speech and
let us all know about the numerous ways he can help his campaign. These
things include tabling, voter registration, and neighborhood cleanups in
Dave's district. If you'd like to know more about what you can do, get
in contact with Dave or any Green and they'll let you know what you can
do.

3. Neighborhood Cleanup
-This'll be the first Campus Green event of the semester. Done in
support of both Dave's campaign and the environment, we'll be cleaning
up the 7th district this Saturday. If you want to clean up the city
streets (literally) but don't know the city well, feel free to get in
contact with me (Brandon Bissell-Evans, bb961634@albany.edu) and I'll
help you get where we're meeting to pick up trash. For those who do know
Albany, we'll be meeting at Dave's place (382 Morris) on Saturday at
11:00 AM. Be there!

4. Environmental Taskforce
-Since the University began its "UAlbany Goes Green" project last year
it has done very little to actually address its environmental impact. As
such, we're going to attempt to get somebody on the taskforce to goad
them into doing something this semester. Sam has shown some interest in
doing this, but if anybody else would like to work within the campus
bureaucracy (all the more power to you) let us know and we'll get you
information as soon as when the taskforce will start up again.

5. Fund raising
-With the disbandment of the Green House we've lost our main method of
getting money for our events and other expenses this semester so we need
new ideas. Some things that have been thrown around so far:

-Bottle Drives
we've done this in the past. We went around to all the quads on campus
and collected bottles from the trash and from students. We get a fair
amount of money from this in the past and we're going to try to do it
again this semester. We'll let everyone know when we're going to start
this (probably in October so people know what they're schedules are
like) but if anybody is interested now let us know!

-Vegan Bake Sales
Everybody loves baked goods and vegan ones are even better. Marwin has
volunteered to head this fundraiser (which is awesome because she makes
some of the best damn baked goods ever). We'll probably do this in
conjunction with tabling so as to maximize the exposure for both. Anyone
who likes baking should get in touch with Marwin and anyone who likes
tabling should get in touch with an eboard member and we'll set
something up.

-Parties
We'd still like to do some partying this year so if anyone has a big
place they'd like to offer up for a rocking party let us know. The
Greens would take care of the cleanup and supplies for the party- it's
just a matter of getting a venue.

Those are what we've come up with so far. And anybody with a bunch of
money can feel free to donate to the Campus Greens' coffers. Any new
ideas are welcome as well.

6. Food Not Bombs
-Introduction to Food Not Bombs. Every Monday at 5:30 members meet to
cook perfectly edible food that would be thrown out by various
businesses around Albany. The food is then serve it at the Social
Justice Center (33 Central Avenue) for anyone who wants it, which is
mostly Albany's homeless. If you'd like to come cook food and get a free
meal out of it, show up around 5:30 at 9 Western Avenue.

7. Potluck
-Introduction to Potluck. Every Sunday the Greens meet to socialize and
eat delicious vegetarian/vegan food. If you're interested, Potluck
starts around 8:00 every Sunday. We ask that you bring a
vegetarian/vegan dish to share with the group but if you can't make
anything come by and hang out anyway. This week it will be held at Dave
Lussier's apartment as part of fundraiser for his campaign. Bringing a
dish absolves you of the need to donate, but any donations would be
appreciated. Again, if you don't know Albany and like to go get in
contact with me (Brandon, bb961634@albany.edu) and I'll get you to where
you need to be. More information about potluck can be found at the
Campus Greens website at:

8. Bowling
-In an effort to build group morale and solidarity we're going to
institute bowling nights throughout the semester. We'll be doing this on
the dollar bowling nights which are Tuesday and Wednesday. There is also
beer served for those who are of age. The buses go right near the
bowling alley so it's very easy to get to and it should be really
awesome time for anyone who comes. Stay tuned for the next bowling night
scheduled and come have some fun on the lanes.

9. Announcements
-This is the open forum for anything that wasn't covered in the main
agenda topics that anyone can talk about. This week Marwin spoke briefly
about the Honest Weight Food Coop located at 484 Central Avenue and all
the great food it has as well as the member discounts.

That's all from the first meeting. I'd like to thank all the old members
for showing up and extend a greeting to all of our new members. A big
thanks to Marwin and Dave for picking up the pizza for the meeting as
well.

Also, since it was the day before the break, our next meeting will be a
second General Interest Meeting of sorts for those who couldn't make it
this week. Pizza will be served again too if that will convince you to
come.
